May 2019

May was another trip where we slowly started to see Obstetrics patients on the mountain with Melina Morales, our new midwife on loan from Saving Mothers.  Dr. Strohecker saw patients daily for primary medical care.  And this week, our dentist, Dr. Jovita Toledo brought another dentist, Dr. Mariam Cetinoin to see dental patients.  In addition to providing free dental care, they each gave educational meetings to all the school teachers on the mountain, shown below.  Dr. Toledo is shown below instructing the teachers on how to teach the children (K-5 schools are provided by the government on the mountain) good dental care.  Dr. Toledo successfully acquired a grant from Colgate for all of her supplies (toothbrushes, toothpaste, etc for hundreds of children) on the mountain.  This project will be ongoing for the next couple of years and we are very proud of her hard work on this.

There was also a fair in Camotan this month for mother’s day.  We were present with educational materials and met with local leaders to continue promoting better healthcare in the area.   Shown below (L to R) is Melina Morales (our nurse midwife working with us from Saving Mothers), Anna our office manager and Josselyne our nurse.
